17th Annual JSG Commodities/JOB Economia Sugar Seminar

Sugar Week in New York is just over a month away! Please join us for the 17thAnnual JSG Commodities/JOB Economia Sugar Seminar to be held on the afternoon of  Monday May 13th at the Park Lane Hotel – the official hotel for the 2019 Sugar Week. We have arranged for an excellent panel of speakers and there will be ample opportunity to network with your peers as Sugar Week gets underway. 

Our Lineup: 

Tom Daly – Relevant Ventures. “Turning big ships in small spaces toward a digital futures.”

  • Over his 25 year career in senior digital marketing roles at The Coca-Cola Company, Dutch bank ING, and logistics giant UPS, Tom Daly’s work has directly (or indirectly) impacted billions of consumers and millions of businesses in countries around the world.  This work has earned him global recognition, including two consecutive appearances on Ad Week’s list of “Top 10 Most Influential Marketers”. 

Christian Laurent – Senior Strategist, Rabobank. A detailed update on the macroeconomic outlook as it relates to sugar markets.

  • Christian Laurent works for Rabobank in New York as a Senior Market Strategist specializing in currencies and interest rates. Prior to this role, Christian worked on the FX strategy team in London for two and a half years where he focused on emerging market currencies. Before joining Rabobank he worked for five years as an interest rate strategist at RBC Capital Markets where he specialized in relative value rates trades. 

Toby Cohen – Vice President, Market Analysis, ASR Group. The current EU Sugar market situation and some of the global reformulation risks that have spread from the EU to South Africa.

  • Toby Cohen is Vice President Market Research at ASR Group.  ASR is the largest vertically integrated cane sugar refiner in the world.  Toby has over 24 years experience in commodity markets.  He started work as a futures broker in 1990 and then moved into physical trading. In 1997 he was posted to Singapore where he experienced the impact of the Asian financial crisis on commodity markets. On his return to London in 1999 he became actively involved with Brazil before moving from trading to analysis in 2002.  He was appointed to the board of Czarnikow Group in 2006 later becoming head of Czarnikow’s advisory business.  He joined ASR in 2014.  

Julio Borges – President – JOB Economia. Brazilian sugarcane industry: the crop 2019/20 and the near future-changes in the front

  • Julio Maria Martins Borges, the Executive Director of JOB Economia since 1994, graduated from the University of Brasília with a degree in Economics. Professor at the Economics Department of University of Sao Paulo. He was the Head of the Economic Advisory to the Board of Directors of Copersucar, for 14 years . Formerly he was member of the Brazilian Commodities and Futures Exchange (BM&F-BOVESPA) as a commodities futures broker. A consultant for IDB (Inter-American Development Bank) and the UNDP (United Nations Development Program). Member to the board of directors or consultative or auditing boards of research institutions, sugar mills, Brazilian and foreign NGOs that are involved with sugar and renewable energy sources. 

Jeff Dobrydney - Sr. Vice President and Head of Futures and Options, JSG Commodities.  Global Sugar Market Update – Assessing risks for the balance of 2019 and beyond

  • Jeff Dobrydney has been with JSG Commodities since 2005, when he started as an Assistant Trader.  A graduate from Fordham University and Fairfield Prep,  Jeff has solidified his role within the Sugar trading community covering both the US Domestic and World market futures markets.   He is now the Sr. Vice President of JSG and is the head of the futures & options desk that executes trades for Sugar, Cocoa & Grains for a wide array of clientele.  Jeff also serves as a Vice President of the Sugar Club of New York.   

Frank Jenkins - President, JSG Commodities. NAFTA/USMCA sweetener markets - current situation and future prospects

  • Frank Jenkins is President of JSG Commodities, a commodities brokerage and consultancy located in South Norwalk, Connecticut. Prior to founding JSG in 1993, Mr. Jenkins was a vice president with the Merrill Lynch Private Client Group in Manhattan. He started his career in the sugar industry with the Man Group in New York. He regularly addresses industry forums and was recently a Key Note speaker at the ISO Sugar Conference in London. He has served as President of the Sugar Club of New York and currently serves as Chairman of the ICE Domestic Sugar Committee. He is a graduate of Boston University and lives with his of 34 years, Kristen, in Wilton, Connecticut.
